ABOUT

The LaRue/Alexander - L.A.X. recording and live show are the culmination of 25-plus years of these two great artists playing and writing together. This project takes the duo in a new direction, featuring a bluesy sound with vocals in addition to the instrumental emphasis for which the two have long been critically acclaimed. Some reviewers have claimed Larue/Alexander is like “Stevie Ray meets the Dregs” – an honor which the duo are proud to uphold. Bassist Dave LaRue has toured and recorded with the Steve Morse Band, Dixie Dregs, Joe Satriani and John Petrucci, among others. He has just finished recording the third Flying Colors album for Mascot Records. Guitarist and lead vocalist Glenn Alexander is always busy in the New York area, having worked with artists such as the Max Weinberg 7 (Conan O’Brien), Levon Helm, Randy Brecker, Mahavishnu Project and Jan Hammer. He currently tours with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and his own band, Glenn Alexander & Shadowland. With longtime bandmate Van Romaine (Steve Morse Band, Enrique Iglesias, BS&T, Kansas, Bernie Worrell, Vinnie Moore, Naughty By Nature and Queen Latifah) on drums, the trio produces a sound that is powerful, energetic and fun, all while covering a wide expanse of musical ground.

BIOS

Dave LaRue is the bass player with the virtuoso pop group, Flying Colors. He is also a long-time member of instrumental groups the Steve Morse Band and the Dixie Dregs. LaRue’s technical prowess is formidable among other jazz-fusionists, but his unique talent is to project his virtuosity with remarkable soul and feel.

LaRue continues to be the go-to guy for many leading guitarists, having worked with Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Vinnie Moore, The Hellecasters, Pat Travers, Steve Lukather, Mike Stern, Eric Johnson, Andy Timmons, Albert Lee, Paul Gilbert, Tony MacAlpine, Rik Emmett, Ace Frehley, and Steve Vai.

Education is a big part of Dave’s career, beginning with an instructional column for Bass Player magazine (for whom he also served as a member of the Advisory Board). LaRue also does clinics internationally for Music Man and was an adjunct professor at Stetson University in Florida. He teaches privately at Bass Central in Orlando when not on the road, and does lessons via Skype with students from all over the world.

In 2019, Dave recorded the new Flying Colors studio record, Third Degree, which was released in early October. A fall tour should follow. Dave will be finishing his second solo album, playing with the Dave LaRue Band, and, with musical partner Glenn Alexander, mixing and releasing their new album, L.A.X.
